I just learned that Jay Gaynor, who was the Director of Historic Trades at Williamsburg passed on this morning. I have known him for quite a few years and his knowledge of 18th Century tools and trades will be sorely missed. That is truly sad news. I talked to Jay regularly at the Working Wood symposiums. They won't be the same without his tie removal and bad jokes. Requiescat in pace. This is terrible news! He was extremely knowledgeable on any number of 18th C trades. I suspect Jay was the glue that held a lot of disparate trades (and people) together down there. And I think his absence will be keenly felt across the old tools/old trades world. > Requiescat in pace.Amen. -T > From: michigaloot@c... > To: tonyseo@p...; oldtools@r... > Subject: RE: [OldTools] Another Passing > Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2014 21:03:25 -0400 > CC: > > That is truly sad news.
