1877 is the date I believe..

It's gone from the MF catalog by 1904 is all I can report.  Probably
done in by the egg beater drills.

Well that's a start Mike, narrows it down to 1877 through 1903 at
least....thanks :-)

I don't have it in any of my catalogs. I have the lion's share from 1878 on.

OTH was the first place i looked Randy !     ....mmm could it be another spiral
drill body which someone stuck an old MF chuck on the end??

Will have a closer look when it arrives.

These drills were sold with a small chuck, usually split jaws, for holding
diamond shaped bits. They were sold to people doing fretwork. I’ve also seen
similar drills offered in jewelers catalogs for boring soft metals, also with
the split jaw chuck.

I suspect the chuck was added by an owner.
