I have read that a response rate of one in one million spam emails is enough for profit to the spammers because they send so very many every day, and often several times a day. That one responder keeps them alive. If only we could find that one responder and kill him. :>) Even the infamous Nigerian Bank Account scam is still alive because there are still people responding to it. I know a lady who is so horribly addicted to sweepstakes offers that she will often go without food to buy tickets. No amount of logic and persuasion will deter her. And because she responds, she is inundated with offers for more. Humans are a strange breed.
