As the above indicates, the anti-vacuum effect might be worth having on
smoothers or even jacks when the 'adhesion' can cause small jobs to be
lifted from the bench top.

I reckon that the benefit might be less for longer planes likely to be used
on bigger stuff too heavy to be lifted.
