230652 wmy2@f... Jun-02-2012 Almost gloat
Good Galoots:I checked out a yard sale today-As I was walking in I met a
gentleman leaving who was carrying a backsaw. We got into a discussion, and I
had a chance to get a closer look. Masking tape sticker marked $1.00. Well
patinated but not pitted with rust. Not much finish on the closed handle. From a
distance, could be taken for a 14 inch Disston. Marked with a British maker
which I can't remember, Sheffield, Cast Steel. I read it to the new owner who
claimed not to be able to. Given the choice, I'd rather have my eyesight-even
corrected with trifocals- than the saw.

I've seen many saws with markings similar to what you describe, but usually
there is something more. That seems to indicate where the saw was made,
but not really who it was made by. I have a saw with similar on it, but it
also says J. Sorby in addition.

Thanks,

Doc
