Don,

I don't see why the fact that you are using a woodie would stop you from 
using a jointer fence (unless you are like me).  They did make the 
fences for that purpose, but I have to admit I have never worked up 
enough nerve to use mine.  (They have to be attached to the plane by 
with wood screws - I just can't see myself putting screw holes in the 
side a nice 23" wooden jointer.)

You're right of course. I could do that. It was normal practice wasn't 
it? But I wouldn't. I'd find another plane.

I szee it as the perfect opportunity to chase up in the usual places a 23" 
wooden jointer wuth screw holes already made!  ;-)
