Ron, I agree with nearly all the sentiments expressed already. For me,
after a couple of serious back surgeries and probably lifelong pain from
excessive bending over, a wall cabinet is a much more attractive
prospect. I'm not figuring on traveling frequently with many of my tools
and hoisting them into or out of a vehicle. Never mind that some of the
pictures of rolling chests are just gorgeous inside a dull, utilitarian
exterior. OTOH, a tall wall cabinet extending to the 'ceiling' of my
shop would be troublesome as well; things need to be within easy reach,
and swinging doors have to clear the vices on my general workbench if
that's where I hang it. I also have a simple cabinet for some of the less-
used items and some of my longer pieces of exotic woods, but it does
take up a fair amount of floor space in what is a small shop. Every
choice involves trade-offs, and making a wall cabinet or three would
consume time. Consolidating all my tools in one spot my raise some
eyebrows within the household too. But making it/them attractive to my
eye, and building such storage after I finish the most important
project(s) SWMBO has in mind would be an enjoyable project. Hang the
cabinets, forget what the kids have to do with them when I'm gone. If I
make three of them, each one can have one of their own ..... but if that
is the goal I also should figure out how to make the storage spaces
reconfigurable. Is that my problem, or theirs? As you can tell, I
haven't built mine yet either.
