I was on the road when you sent this, and forgot to reply once I was back to a
full-sized keyboard.  Thanks for the info, and that's a great looking lathe that

I'll probably adapt my lathe to use that German pole setup at some point, and I
did find a dry red cedar pole in the woods that might work pretty well.  I'm not
eager (read: too lazy) to cut slots in the 4x6" end beam, so it probably won't
happen too soon.
