229051 John Ruth <johnrruth@h...> Apr-18-2012 A Different Kind of Saw Till,

I would like to call the attention and creative abilities of the Porch
to the photograph on the top page of "An Ax to Grind: A Practical Ax
Manual" by the US Forest Service=2C available at this link:

http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/environment/recreational_trails/publications/fs-
_publications/99232823/index.cfm

This manual was mentioned on the Porch within the past few days. My
interpretation of the photo is that it is a "Sharpening Shop" for the
maintenance and repair of tools=2C rather than a "Woodworking Shop".

Look at the saw till in the background. This is a different approach -
most galoot's saw tills hold the saws handle-down=2C requiring mounting
high above waist level. This saw till takes the opposite design approach
and puts them handle-up=2C allowing the till to be lower on the wall. On
the other hand=2C having them handle-up with the teeth toward the wall
would require either an awkward one-handed "draw" or using both hands.

It certainly does not "display" the saws very well. (Who want SWMBO to
see all their saws together in the same place? Nobody raising their
hand? I thought so!)

What are your thoughts on this general design? How would you make it?

An ancillary question about this photo: I cannot read the sign. Has the
negative been "flipped" ?
