Scott,
You might be right about the unknown problems with hide glue, but I kind of
trust it! But you could be right, although as it's in been in common use for
about 5,000 years now (proven), something unknown problem could pop up any
day.  
And, if you want a manly workout, removing harden modern glue is certainly
one of them.

Maybe it can't be removed with a damp sponge.
  But we aren't little girls in ringlets here.
  We got knives, scrapers... chisels, ... planes
      We -know- how to cut!

   I need to remove hardened glue all the time.
  OK its nobodies favorite and its hard on your edges, but it has to be done
and done well.
   If I couldn't remove glue when I wanted, I'd have to look for another
lifestyle.

   What am I not understanding?
Seems too easy. Must be a trap?
