227392 Richard Gorbutt <Richardg@j...> Feb-29-2012 on the bench this week - current projects
well, it appears i do have a Potatobucket account. i couldnt find any
non dead batteries for my good camera so these are phone camera pics,
but heres some of the guitar related bits and bobs ive been up to over
the last couple of weeks-

first up, heres the guitar i was asked to make for my boss. its made
from old growth pine and teak, that i pulled out of a skip whilst the
roof was being repaired on our warehouse. the warehouse was built in
1860, so its got some history. the neck is maple. i left some subtle
signs of its former life on it, so theres actually an adze mark on the
treble cutaway at the back from when it was first hewn to shape as a
roofbeam 150 years ago.. :c) it was actually finished by christmas cos
it was a present, but didnt get enough time to finish the
lacquering/sanding/polishing so had to let it go with the finish not
buffed. its coming back this week to finish it off.

some more pine teles being made for various people-

the beam was about 10 by 4 inches and slabsawn, so i cut it through into
2 inch thick strips and tried to bookmatch the quartersawn bits when
glueing the spreads-

a test fitting of the neck and hardware after rough shaping (this
customer wanted it to look like a roof beam, so the nice bookmatched
grain is on the back. The front has various old nail and screw marks in
it, that are meant to be there. Not my taste, but whatever):

also, ive started applying the sealer to this figured ash /brazilian
rosewood les paul junior style - http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd3-

and this last ones for me :c) its a headless synth guitar. rosewood and
ebony neck, ash body. im just finishing shaping the neck, then its time
to add the binding and start applying finish. here it is havin a test
fit of all the parts during shaping -
