I just stopped in to a tool rental outfit I'd never been to
before, to ask directions to a store selling refrigerator
gaskets. On a whim I asked for old tools, and I walked out with
a nifty drafting set, and a block plane I thought in a rush was a
Stanley 9 1/2, but seems not to be, although the blade is a 9
1/2s. Any help IDing it would be appreciated.
The blade is a Stanley notched logo, with
No. 9 1/2 (13-029A)
Made in USA
stamped below it. The main casting is japanned, has Hand-Y
grooves milled in the side, vertical depth adjuster (like on a 9
1/2 or an 18), an an eccentric mouth adjuster. So far, so
Stanley.
The moving metal bits (nut on depth adjuster, entire lateral
adjuster, and front knob and eccentric lever) are nickel-plated.
The main casting says
032851
right behind the mouth, and
C 2
in the middle.
The lever cap is stippled and japanned.
The overall quality is pretty nice -- excellent milling on the
casting and mouth, etc.
Is this a frwnakenplane, a late-model 9 1.2 (but I thought they
were blue), or a clone?
Thanks,
Andrew in Tucson
