I'm coming in on the end of this so please excuse any redundancy,
When I build something I build it to the expected tolerances.
If I'm rebuilding an engine one deals in ,001 of inches .I do not expect the
same when I'm building a house .When I measure the diagonals on the deck of
a building and they differ from each other by 1/4" in or less .I have been
known to say "its good enough for government work" or "you can't see it from
my house ". and move on .If they are off by more than 1/4' I'll remediate
it and possibly curse a lot in the process .But I fix it .
I once had to put 3 sets of sills to get a 16X 20 addition close to square
.The foundation was out that much. The air was blue that day.
When I built my first wall unit .I put the framing square in the corner and
it was out by 3/4"in the short side .So much for wondering if the square is
square
I have also put the name of every carpenter that works on my jobs on one of
the rafters .Its usually is just myself and my 2 boys .
I did take a wall down once and the wall was signed by my friends grand
father 40 yrs before .
This light is killing me I better go back under the porch
                                                                     tom
crowley
                                                                      orient
