I have stamped brass discs for identification purposes in a previous 
lifetime and it does work.  However, the down side is that the disc will 
distort during stamping and is not really a candidate for inletting to 
show your work skills.  I did have a branding iron made a couple of 
years ago and was very satisfied with the result.  Price wasn't too bad, 
IIRC, and the brand really added to the professional look of our work.
