October 2005 Standard terms. When item is received, notice the postage on the package and add that to the price paid. Orders will be honored in the sequence that they are logged in. Items preceded by a * are leftovers from the last list, mostly at reduced prices. *10" bit brace with concealed ratchet, Stanley No. 921. It's a good, strong brace with no damage to the cocobolo but hardly any remaining nickel plating. $5. *Smoothing plane, Stanley No. 4, Type 13, but blade by Sargent. It's ready to use and just needs some cleaning. There is 1 1/4" of usable bladse. $10. *1/2" socket-handled firmer chisel, 4" below the socket, good leather-tipped handle, faint stamp looks like owner's. Some light pitting is not a problem for normal use. $5. *10"bit brace. Stanley No. 945A. It's a good, strong brace with nearly complete nickel plating and good wood (but the wood is not cocobolo). $7. Hand drill, Millers Falls No. 5. This one has the broad rimmed drive gear that can be turned delicately for fine work. Chuck opens to 3/8". Handle is hollow for bit storage, but nothing rattles in it; and the cap looks like a replacement that I can't get loose. It's still a nice tool for $8. Chain drill, Milllers Falls No. 719. It has a square shank for use in a two-jawed bit brace and a three-jaw chuck for bits up to 1/2". That chuck can be removed to leave a 1/2" socket for other tools with this diameter shank. It just needs some minor cleaning. $20. Fenced grooving plane, yellow birch with 18th century characteristics, 5/16' blade, fence arms clamped by wooden thumb screws. There is a repaired crack in the body, and the wedge finial is cracked off. Except for the mentioned damage, it is quite a handsome and usable plane for all its 200 (estimated) years. $25. Corner rounding plane (no name), makes a quarter round profile along one edge of a board, like one side of a nosing plane. Steel and wood are both good+. $12. Handled jack rabbet, 1 1/2' wide, 13" long, two nickers. Maker's stamp too light to read. Wood and steel are good+, and the wood looks to me like yellow birch rather than beech. $20. Complex molder, cove and bead !". Owner's stamp is "E.B" with a constellation of stars, maker's stamp too faint to read. Plane is in fine condition, and the wood looks to me like yellow birch rarther than beech. $20. Reverse ogee molder, 1" wide, faint maker's stamp looks like five letters ending in "S.", owner's stamp "R. McT.". Wood and steel good, but I think it would be better with a fence. $12. Shallow 3/8" side-bead, which looks European; so it's probably 1 cm.. Wood is a dense, red-brown exotic but not rosewood. Light stamp looks like "RMGS". $10. 1" side bead that could also be a nosing plane. It's unusual in having the boxing of exotic wood set so that the grain direction is vertical rather than at an angle. It's a good plane, but all I can read of the maker's stamp is "F. P..." $10. 5/8" round plane with the rare, skewed blade. There is a faint maker's stamp that I can't make out. Two screw holes show where a fence was probaly attached and suggest that it was used for some purpose different from the usual use of such a plane. $10. Book: Model Engineer, Vol 143, (Part 1), bound issues of the magazine for Jan-June, 1977. Articles are aimed for amateur machinists who make miniature steam engines, etc. There are over 700 pages of good stuff, if that's your interest. $10 Heavy-framed ratchet brace, 10" size "JOHN S FRAY CO/NO 106. More than half the plating is there, and the cocobolo is in fine condition. Ratchet works smoothly. $12. Heavy-framed ratchet brace, 10" size, "P.S.& W. CO./1002.Cocobolo is fine, plating good on the chuck but mostly worn off the rest. A strong, usable bracxe with smoothly acting ratchet. $10. Heavy framed ratchet brace, 10"size Stanley No. 919. This is another well-wprking brace. The wood is all good, but a good deal of cleaning is needed. $8. 1/2" out-cannel gouge, "BUCK BROTHERS" It shows very little use. Handle appears untouched. A little polishing will make it like new. $10. 1 3/4" socket-handled chisel, 4 1/4" blade below the socket "T. H. WITHERBY/ WARRANTED" Ash handle with leather tip. I think that this is as nice a chisel as you will find, and I don't hesitate pricing it at $15. This month's giveaway is a wheel-type glasscutter. Let me know if you want me to leave it out.
