Always being right on top on things:), I thought I would finally get around to sharing some pictures and stuff from some Galoot'ish outings this summer... Early in the summer, we made a trip to visit my MIL in northwestern PA. We decided to take some extra time for other activities on both legs of the trip. The following link contains some pictures of Galoot'ish interest (sorry the quality of some of these are not great - it was dark inside) from that trip. http://home.comcast.net/~brucelove/PATrip2005/ Later in the summer, we spent a week participating in the annual "clogging of the roads" in Cape Cod. Actually, we had a great time. Two items of note. (1) Dovetail Antiques, which was mentioned in the archives as a good tool destination, appears to no longer exist. Unless I wrote down the wrong address, it appears to be a Florist shop now. (2) Second, if you happen to stop at the Post Office in South Eastham to let your GITs mail some postcards, and then you wander over to the backyard of the Swift-Daley house next door, and then you notice a building marked "Tool Museum" and you go on and you find yourself in a nifty little tool museum with a good selection of tools including some nifty Cape-related stuff (like a Cranberry sorting machine) and then you just happen to turn and look on the bench next to the door and see a small OPEN HANDLED Disston backsaw (10" I think) with a very old Disston medallion and (you are pretty sure) "double eagles" on the back spine - if that happens, look down and you will see the large drool spot I left on the bench as I fondled this saw. Finally, I mentioned this last year - but by far my favorite Galoot'ish outing of the summer was a local trip to the Goschenhoppen Folk Festival. This is a local (Southeastern PA) festival with a WIDE variety of period skills represented. They have their own master/apprentice system within each area. These pictures give a glimpse of what goes on there... http://home.comcast.net/~brucelove/Goschenhoppen2005/ On to the fall now....
