151928 Ken Pendergrass <kenp794@c...> Oct-29-2005 Columbus Ohio stuff to see?
I'm going to Columbus next week to see the Shapton dog and pony show. Is
there anything else there I should see while I have the chance? Isn't
there some type of historic village there?
thanks,
Ken

Ohio Historical Village & Museum is just off I-71 at
exit 111, between the State Fairgrounds and Crew
Stadium. That's where Don McConnell started his
career. There is a cabinet maker in the "village"
part.

About 1 mile west is the main campus of The Ohio State
University. It's a great place to take a walkabout
and see the architecture and the trees. Of course,
I'm a bit biased (Go Bucks)!

Sadly, in the name of state budget cuts, the trade program at the
Ohio Village was terminated two or three years ago. I'm not sure
the village is open at all, except for special occasions and
school group tours. But, even if it is, do not expect to see any
actual ongoing trade activity. At best, one will encounter costumed
"historical interpreters." Sigh .... .

German Village, at the South edge of downtown has some interesting
older architecture and flourishing micro-brewery activity. Not
specifically oldtools activities, but you may not care too much.
