I don't think I'm generalizing anymore than they are about how someone like 
me cleans their tools, since my No 8 is the only tool I have that is in that 
type of condition.

But if they saw the pile of rust it was before it got turned into a usable 
tool again, that might not give the same perception.

And to be honest, I probably would also. But I wanted a decent user for a 
jointer, and was able to get one from rarebear for a decent price. He was 
able to do the work and pass it along to me, I think both of us were happy. I 
had to wait for quite a while to get it, but it was worth it for me. He 
doesn't get a lot of No 8s, and especially a type 11. It matches my No 4C 
which is also a Type 11, and not refurbished (I don't have any pics of it 
though).
