Assembled Galooterati

Theoretical Question for Y'All

Lets say a certain galoot who shall remain nameless has a friend with
galootish tendencies who's buying something for work from a Nordic
country which may be known for making cars which are really safe and
stodgy. Now say this something he's buying from said Nordic country is
kinda big, and may be coming in a crate or two, with lots of excess
space in the crates. And maybe these crates are coming ocean freight due
to their size and value.

If said friend with galootish tendencies could be convinced to do a
little shopping during his free time in this Nordic country, looking for
woodworking tools and the like, do any of the aforementioned AGs know
where to send him, or what brands to look for. A just swapped for a Berg
Eskilstuna chisel prompted this thought (thanks Bill).

He's got the vodka plan already worked out, so he says.

Thanks in advance

I think that Gränsfors Bruks is in Sweden.

Gränsfors Bruks AB S-820 70 Bergsjö, Sweden Phone: +46 652 71090, Fax:
+46 652 14002 axes(a)gransfors.com

They make very expensive tools specifically for making smaller very
large bits of wood, or so it says at
http://www.gransfors.com/htm_eng/index.html.

I go to Stockholm with some regularity and have yet to find a source of
old tools. There are a couple of antique stores in Stockholm, but I
have never seen anything of note.

The equivalent of the local Ace hardware store stocks all manner of
Gransfors Bruks axes and hatchets, after exchange rates and taxes the
prices work out to be about the same as in the US though.

Gransfors Bruks is 4 hours by car north of Stockholm. They have a web
presence http://www.gransfors.com/htm_eng/index.html and a museum. The
company appears fairly galoot centric and appear to be happy to do it
the old way(going so far as to give away a pamphlet called "THE AXE
BOOK" for free). You might try asking them about regions, or even
suspected availability.

Until some fool invents "the power axe" they have little
choice!
