148157 Steven Longley <sclongley@s...> 2005‑07‑31 Finished something to about 95%!!
Hey… I usually stop at about 80%

Short Version:

Took a drive in the country, met some great guys
(three of them galoots!), and learned how to make
Shaker boxes.

Longer Version:

I attended Paul Coppinger’s excellent one-day Shaker
Box class in East Texas yesterday.

Paul holds his class in his “over-the-top shop” that,
trust me, is the envy of any woodworker who sees it.
It’s the only personal workshop that I’ve seen that
converts to a classroom with such ease.

Paul has obviously worked out all the issues of
teaching the class and making the boxes because he
makes the process both and enjoyable. Paul, along
with charter-galoot Mike DeLong, were there to help us
through every step of the operation, and to offer
those DAMHIKT tidbits of knowledge that keep you on
the straight and narrow.

The class size is great because it’s small enough to
allow all the personal instruction that you need (and
allow me remember everyone’s name!), yet large enough
to get that classroom feel. Paul and Mike turned out
to be gracious hosts in giving everyone the full
workshop tour, while Paul’s wife cooked up some great
homemade goodies.

So, if you have an interest in Shaker boxes and have
an opportunity to take one of Paul’s classes, I would
highly recommend that you do.

Oh yes… about the 95% part… being a one-day class, you
take the boxes home unfinished, which gives some of us
the option to keep our status as having a
completion-complex.
