Paul Fuss responded saying:
<snip> "It's Tudor style and was built by local craftsmen I think in the 20's or
30's, and is absolutely huge. The interior contains lots of oak panelling, all
handplaned with visible scrub marks (vertical, running with the grain, and quite
uniform in the overall pattern created). It is actually fairly subtle, but
very distinct if you look closely or feel it (don't worry, I was discreet).
This was clearly done for aesthetic effect, as the place was intentionally given
a handcrafted look."

In the circa 1830 log home I am trying to restore (no cash or time at present)
the interior walls are covered with heart pine boards 10 to 12 inches wide.
They are original (sash sawn on the back) and have distinct plane marks showing
which give them a nice wavy look. This was no shack either the house was
built for one of the daughters of a plantation owner and her new husband.
Maybe they are not from a scrub plane, but a slightly convex bladed smoother.
In any case not much effort was put into removing all of the plane marks, and
makes me think they may have even been decorative.
