137100 Bill Kasper <dragonlist@i...> 2004‑09‑22 replacement lever cap for old block plane
gg,

i picked up an old stanley 130 (double-ended block plane, jeff) the
other day, with a custom-made lever cap, carefully crafted from old
packing crate wood. i am wondering if anyone knows which, if any,
other block planes have lever caps with the wheel that would work in
replacement.

it's a nifty plane, even with the crude wedge. rather than a bullnose
on the short side, it has been user-modified (probably by the same
hack, er, craftsman who did the wedge) and is now a chisel plane. i
didn't have a wide chisel plane, so that's nice. the blade is original
("STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO." in an arc, with the ""PAT'D JAN.30.82" and
"REIS'D OCT.23.83" inside the arc), and it's certainly of the first
type, as the sides of the plane are curved rather than flat at the top.
i am seriously thinking of cleaning it up and making an infill block
plane/chisel plane out of it, i think it would look cool and work a
treat (work well...oh, never mind, richard).

any ideas for the lever cap are heretofore appreciated in advance (or
is that a tad redundant?).

Bill,

I used the cap and wheel from a no-name block plane (looked similar to a
Stanley #102) on mine.
