I liked the other treadle better as well, but I guess I'll just suffer
<sigh>. Aaaanyway, as is my normal procedure, I have started researching
this lathe with an unhealthy intensity. Here's how the original seat
configuration worked:

The legs are on right, as we can see, and the seat is on an arm with a
post, and is attached to the lathe so one can slide it closer to the
tailstock. 

And now an opinion check: these lathes were always painted and
pinstriped, and in cleaning, I've uncovered a faint burgundy layer under
the grime. I'm not going to get it past faint, though. Would anyone
repaint it once fully clean?
