Hoping to someday build a bench, I've been following the discussions on 
bench dogs and holdfasts. I seem to have seen somewhere a picture of a bench 
with steel sockets inset in the top for use with bench dogs and holdfasts. 
Has anyone had any experience with these? I use a square holdfast in my 
anvil's hardie hole, and the steel edges will really grip.
