The NBM also has an annual Festival of the Building Arts that is great for
kids of all ages but mostly young ones. I coordinate a demonstration by the
Washington Woodworker's Guild and we let the kids carve, shave, made some
spoons and let kids shave/file out some cabriole legs last year (until a
Nicholson 50 became a John Belushi sword and got whacked in two across the
leg). I found a bizarre stub tenoner and the kids make tenons all day and
can't get enough of it. PATINA also shows up and there's a blacksmith
outside. This years event slips into OCT 2002 so check NBM.org (I think) and
plan to attend.
