Dear Fellow Galoots, I have been here lurking under the porch for over two years. My New Year resolution is to finally post a Bio so here goes. SWMBO and I live in the country near Ainsworth, Iowa (about 25 miles south of Iowa City.) She is very supportive of me, but has often asked why I son't build more projects with the tools I have. My old tools affliction started about 40+ years ago. My grandpa has alot of oldtools on his basement wall, among them was a drawknife. It gve me great satisfactionto cut long shavings and of scrap lumber until I hit a knot and broke out a big chip of the blade. I hit most of the auctions around here looking for Stanley, and Disston tools. About a year ago I bought an old finish carpenter's toolchest with a blockplane in it. At the same sale I bought a carpenter's hachet. The hachet and block plane both have the same owners intials on them so I am sure he owned all the tools and chest. I feel a kinship to the original owner and feel I am preserving not only their tools, but their memory and I hope their skill. My other passion/obcession is looking for arrowheads. The are the oldest of the oldtools found in the midwest after all. Well, so long for now. Cheers, Gary White in icy Iowa. ______________________________________________________________ | |||
