I'm Harry Buchanan located in New Market, Alabama (almost in Tennessee).
I'm a retired NASA engineer. Been interested in old tools and traditional
woodworking for some time, but have more time to spend now.
I got interested in the old tools in self defense - My SWMBO is and
antiquer and junk sifter and I had to find something to look at in all
those places. After I bought a few things I got interested in how they
worked and before I knew it I was hooked. Now I "work" as a volunteer at
a living history site near here a couple of days a week and have a small
shop at home. I'm probably more of a " tool user" than a " tool collector" - I
don't usually buy something I can't/won't use. For museum work I do try to
stick with tools of the 1850 -1900 period (of course that covers a lot of
interesting ground).
If I have any expertise it's probably in making Ladder-back Chairs with
woven seats (a la John Alexander). I like all kinds of "green" woodworking
projects and I have about 50 acres of raw material behind the house.
I've been lurking off and on for several months now and decided it was time
to get up on the porch.
